Summary

It also talks about the Civil Rights Movement, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and his best known speech, "I Have a Dream".
Connection to Black History
Martin Luther King Jr. has become a powerful Black History figure due to how important he had become for the Civil Rights Movement. He empowered his community through his speeches, motivating them to stand in peaceful nonviolent protests. It teaches kids about who Martin Luther King Jr. was, and how they can stand up to unjustice without having to use violence as an answer.

- Students should make a timeline of the events listed in the book, the importance of each event, and how Martin Luther King Jr. played a role in each one.
- As a class, make each student pick and defend why they believe a specific event to be the most important.
- Encourage them to write about an injustice they feel should be changed, and how it can be done.
